How stream recording works

ApexStream can save a copy of your live broadcast to your cloud library, whether you produce it in Web Studio or push it in from an encoder like OBS. This article explains how recording is captured for each path.

Recording in Web Studio

  • Before or during a broadcast, open the Record menu in the top bar and choose Cloud recording to save the show to your ApexStream library, or Local recording to save it straight to your own device.
  • While recording is active, a pulsing red REC indicator with a running timer shows on screen so you always know it's capturing.
  • Don't need to broadcast at all? Use the arrow next to Go Live and pick Recording Only instead of Streaming Only — this records your session without sending it to any of your connected channels.

Recording from OBS and other encoders

If you're streaming in with OBS or another external encoder, ApexStream captures the recording on the server side while you're live — there's nothing extra to start in the Studio for it.

Once a broadcast ends, the recording is processed and then shows up in your Media Library in the dashboard, usually within a few minutes.

Good to know: Recording is a paid-plan feature. Cloud recording opens up starting on the Hobby plan, and Local recording (saving straight to your device) requires Creator or above.
