Tips for guests: best audio & video
Send these tips to your guests before they join so they look and sound their best on stream.
Audio tips
- Wear headphones. This stops your microphone from picking up the stream audio, which prevents echo.
- Use an external microphone if you have one. A USB mic or headset mic sounds clearer than a laptop's built-in mic.
- Stay close to the microphone. About a fist's distance away is usually best.
- Minimize background noise. Close windows, turn off fans or air conditioners if you can, and ask others in the room to stay quiet.
Video tips
- Light your face. Face a window or place a lamp behind your camera so your face is evenly lit. Avoid bright lights directly behind you.
- Raise your camera to eye level. Stack books under a laptop if needed. Looking slightly up is more flattering than looking down.
- Keep the background tidy. A clean background is less distracting for viewers.
- Use a stable internet connection. If possible, connect with an Ethernet cable instead of Wi-Fi.
Before going on stage
- Check the camera preview to make sure you are centered and well lit.
- Watch the microphone meter to confirm it moves when you speak.
- Mute yourself if you are not speaking, but remember to unmute before you talk.
Good to know: Web Studio applies automatic noise suppression to all guests, but a quiet room and a good microphone still make the biggest difference.
