My camera isn't working in Web Studio

If your camera won't show a picture in Web Studio, work through this checklist in order.

Check these, in order

  1. Did your browser block camera access? If Web Studio couldn't get permission, you'll see a message asking you to allow camera access in your browser settings. Check your browser's site permissions for ApexStream and make sure camera access is allowed, then reload.
  2. Is your camera already in use by another app? If another program (like a video call app) has your camera open, Web Studio will show a hardware-in-use message. Close the other app and try again.
  3. Is a camera actually connected? If Web Studio can't detect any camera at all, it'll tell you no device was found. Check that your camera is plugged in (or that your laptop's built-in camera isn't disabled), then reload the page.
  4. Is the wrong camera selected? If you have more than one camera connected, open Settings and check the Camera Source dropdown to make sure the right one is selected. Plugging in a new camera mid-session is detected automatically, so it should appear in the list without needing to reload.
  5. Is your video choppy, frozen, or blocky? That's usually a performance issue rather than a permissions one — see "My video or audio quality is bad" for what to check next.

Good to know: You can toggle your camera on and off at any time with the V keyboard shortcut, or the camera button in the bottom bar — handy for a quick check if you're not sure whether the picture just froze or your camera actually turned off.
