The Green Room (backstage) explained

The Green Room is where your guests wait before they appear in your broadcast. This article explains how it works and how you, as the host, move guests on and off stage.

How it works

  • When a guest joins through your invite link, they land backstage automatically β€” they're connected to the session, but the audience can't see or hear them yet. Their own screen shows a "You are in the Green Room. Waiting for Host..." banner while they wait.
  • As the host, open the Green Room panel in the sidebar. It lists everyone currently Backstage and, separately, everyone currently On Stage, with a small live preview and volume control for each.
  • Each backstage guest's card has a ready toggle. It's for your eyes only β€” you mark a guest ready once they look and sound set up, so you have a quick way to track who's prepped without asking each of them out loud. Guests don't see or control this toggle themselves.
  • The panel also has a Backstage Notes box for jotting private prep notes to yourself β€” reminders like "ask about the new product" before you bring someone on. It's local to your screen only, not a chat with your guest.
  • If you need to message a guest directly while they wait, use the Mentions tab in the Chat panel to send them a private 1:1 message.
  • When you're ready for a guest to appear in the broadcast, click Go Live on their card to bring them on stage. Their screen updates instantly with a "You are LIVE on air!" celebration, and they now appear in your layout.
  • To pull a guest back off the broadcast without disconnecting them, click On Air on their card β€” this returns them to the Green Room. They stay connected and can be brought back on stage anytime.

Good to know: Moving a guest to the Green Room doesn't remove them from the session β€” it just takes them out of the live picture. To disconnect a guest entirely, use the separate leave/kick control on their card.
