Does ApexStream add delay to my stream?

Does ApexStream add delay to my stream?

ApexStream does not add meaningful delay compared to streaming to a single platform directly. The time it takes for your video to reach viewers depends mostly on the path you use to send video into ApexStream and how each platform delivers it to their audience.

Where delay comes from

  • Ingest path β€” streaming from Web Studio or over WHIP/SRT is typically lower latency than a standard RTMP encoder.
  • Platform delivery β€” YouTube, Facebook, Twitch, and other destinations each add their own encoding and buffering time, which is outside ApexStream's control.
  • Viewer connection β€” a viewer's own internet speed and device also affect how quickly they see the stream.

Typical expectations

  • Web Studio and WHIP ingest are designed for low latency.
  • SRT is a good choice when you need reliable, low-latency delivery over unstable networks.
  • Standard RTMP remains widely compatible but usually has slightly more delay than WHIP or SRT.

Good to know: If you notice a long delay on one platform but not another, the difference is usually coming from that platform's playback buffer, not from ApexStream.
