What internet speed / equipment do I need?

You can start streaming with ApexStream on a modern computer and a stable internet connection. The exact specs depend on the resolution and bitrate you plan to use.

Upload speed

Upload speed matters more than download speed for streaming. As a rough guide:

  • 720p β€” at least 5 Mbps upload.
  • 1080p β€” at least 8–10 Mbps upload.
  • 4K β€” at least 25–35 Mbps upload.

Your upload speed should be higher than the bitrate you set, ideally by at least 30–50 percent, so other devices on your network do not interrupt the stream.

Computer

For Web Studio:

  • A modern laptop or desktop from the last 3–4 years.
  • A recent version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari.
  • At least 8 GB of RAM.

For OBS or other encoders, check the encoder's own system requirements in addition to the guidelines above.

Camera and microphone

  • A built-in webcam and microphone work for casual streams.
  • For better quality, use an external USB microphone and a dedicated webcam or camera.
  • A wired internet connection is more reliable than Wi-Fi for long streams.

Good to know: ApexStream handles sending your stream to all platforms, so you only upload once. Your upload bandwidth is not multiplied by the number of destinations.
