AI Access (MCP)

Create an AI access token

Last updated July 24, 2026

An AI access token is a secret string that lets one AI app talk to ApexStream on your behalf. You create it in the dashboard, choose permissions, and copy it once.

Availability and safety: AI access is available only on Creator, Scale, and Enterprise. Free and Hobby accounts cannot create or use MCP tokens and must upgrade to Creator or higher. The feature is not live in production yet and is being prepared for a closed internal trial. An eligible paid plan alone does not enable access. This version is read-only and uses only the permissions you select; it cannot expose stream keys or platform secrets, change settings, or start a broadcast. Account data requested by a connected AI app may be sent to your chosen AI provider, so connect only tools you trust.

Create a token

  1. Sign in at app.apexstream.co.
  2. Go to Settings → Developer.
  3. Read the privacy notice under AI access (MCP).
  4. Click New token.
  5. Enter a Name you will recognize later (for example, “Claude Desktop — studio laptop”).
  6. Set Expires in (days). The default is 90 days, and the allowed range is 1–365 days. Shorter is safer on shared computers.
  7. Under Permissions (pick each), check only what that app needs. Nothing is granted until you select it. Use Select all read only if you want every read permission.
  8. Click Create token.
  9. Click Copy and store the value in your AI app or a password manager immediately. The full secret is shown once. It always starts with apex_mcp_.
  10. When you have saved it, click I saved it — dismiss.

If you lose the secret

ApexStream cannot show the full token again. On the same Developer page, click Revoke on that row, then create a new token.

Tips for naming and expiry

  • One token per computer or AI app makes revocation easier if a device is lost.
  • Prefer 30–90 days for personal machines; use shorter expiry on shared or travel devices.
  • Never paste the token into a public chat, screenshot, or support ticket. Support only needs the token name.
Good to know: Creating a token does not change your ApexStream password. Revoking a token only disconnects that AI app.
