Use a virtual background
Apply a background blur or a custom image behind you in Web Studio so viewers see a polished scene instead of your real room.
How to turn on a virtual background
- Inside Web Studio, click Settings in the top bar.
- Select the Virtual Background tab.
- Choose an effect:
- None β no background effect.
- Strong Blur β heavy blur on the area behind you.
- Slight Blur β subtle depth-of-field look.
- Custom Image β replace your background with an image you upload.
- If you chose Custom Image, click Upload Image and pick a JPG or PNG from your computer.
The first time you enable an effect, Web Studio downloads a small AI segmentation model to your browser. While it loads you'll see a yellow "Loading AI model..." indicator; once it turns green, the effect is active for your viewers and recordings.
Good to know: Virtual backgrounds are processed in your browser, so they use your computer's GPU and CPU. If your machine is already working hard during a complex broadcast, switch to Slight Blur or None to reduce the load.
