Why use streaming software with ApexStream

ApexStream's Web Studio lets you produce and broadcast from your browser, but you can also stream in from external software like OBS, Streamlabs, vMix, or Ecamm. The best choice depends on your production needs.

When an external encoder makes sense

  • You already have an OBS or Streamlabs setup you are comfortable with.
  • You need advanced scene switching, audio routing, or plugins that only desktop software provides.
  • You want to push higher bitrates, especially on Scale or Enterprise plans.
  • You prefer to do complex compositing, multiple camera switching, or game capture on your own machine.

When Web Studio is the better fit

  • You want to go live quickly without installing anything.
  • You need to bring on remote guests easily.
  • You prefer a simpler interface with built-in layouts, graphics, and chat.

How it works together

You send one video feed from your encoder to ApexStream using your ingest URL and stream key. ApexStream then fans that single feed out to all your connected destinations.

Good to know: You still get the benefit of ApexStream's multistreaming, recording, and chat no matter which way you produce your video.
